Officer Austin Abdelnabi - Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department - Nevada

On August 4, 2026, at approximately 4 p.m., Las Vegas police dispatch received a call about a person with a firearm at a business in the 4500 block of East Tropicana Avenue near Interstate 11 and South Mountain Vista Street.  The caller said the man was waving a gun and appeared intoxicated.

Officers and drones were sent to the scene and when officers made contact with the suspect, a gun battle ensued.  During the gun battle, the suspect was killed and Officer Austin Abdelnabi was shot.  Despite life-saving measures on scene by Clark County Fire Department personnel, fellow officers and EMS, he succumbed to his injuries at the University Medical Center where he had been transported.

Officer Abdelnabi was 30-years old and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving as a machine gunner for four years between 2014 and 2018.  He had served with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department since November 2023. He studied at Clemson University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and law enforcement administration from 2018 to 2022.

Our condolences go out to Officer Austin Abdelnabi's family both at home as well as with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
